Christmas celebrations at St Vincent's Care Services

01 February 2019

Christmas is a special time for many of us, and the residents and staff at St Vincent’s Care Services facilities are no exception. Much of December was spent busily preparing for the festive season, with residents making and hanging decorations, singing carols, preparing gifts and enjoying delicious yuletide treats! Here’s a snapshot of what a few of our facilities got up to over Christmas.

With candles glowing and an atmosphere of wonder and delight in the air, everyone at St Vincent’s Care Services Bronte gathered together on 7 December for the long-awaited Christmas concert. The facility’s strong sense of community and friendship blossomed further as residents, staff, volunteers and families together celebrated the very significant time of the year. The beautiful voices of the Bronte Choir and all other participants swelled in the breezy night air with shrieks of merriment from residents, families and children.

The community at St Vincent’s Care Services Eltham focused their time in December on preparing for Christmas. They attended Christmas concerts and lunches at the nearby RSL, and also enjoyed entertainment from visiting performers. The highlight definitely was when Santa came to visit!

Approximately 70 residents and families attended a very joyous occasion in December at St Vincent’s Care Services Kangaroo Point, for Bella’s Christmas Party and Morning Tea. The host – Bella the Labrador, the facility’s much-loved therapy dog! The morning was filled with lots of laughing, smiles, pats for Bella and talking amongst residents about how clever their girl is at opening her presents…especially when it had dog treats inside! A most enjoyable time was had by all and the star of the show, Bella, who was exhausted when she finally got home.

Local entertainer Brendan Walmsley paid a visit to St Vincent’s Care Services Toowoomba in late November for much-anticipated Christmas carols concert. Residents were joined by staff, volunteers and families and entertained by a range of Christmas carols – old and new, with the room full of battery operated candles to set the scene. Following the concert, everyone enjoyed an afternoon tea of lots of yummy treats from the kitchen.

At St Vincent’s Care Services Werribee, residents enjoyed many Christmas themed activities including choirs, Christmas mass, a visit from Santa and Christmas lunch with all the trimmings. A very special mention to the St Vincent’s Resident and Volunteer Choir for their wonderful performance.
