Italian Week at St Vincent's Care Services Hawthorn
21 June 2019
Residents at St Vincent's Care Services Hawthorn were treated to a cultural week celebrating Italy and its connection with our staff, residents and family who are Italian.
Activities throughout the week were: bocce, language lessons, craft (designing flags using napkin art and other textile objects to create flag colours), traditional cooking by a family and visiting grandchildren, history of Italy with our Italian staff member Irene, sing a long and an afternoon tea. The afternoon tea was a great way to finish the week, as we enjoyed Italian sweets, enjoyed an interactive quiz and were entertained by our in-house hairdresser Stephen and his accordion.
Cultural celebrations foster a respect and open-mindedness for other cultures. Celebrating our countries, as well as our common interests, helps unite and educate our community. People throughout the world need to understand and learn to appreciate other cultures, and this is one way we are able to do this.
Our “community” were excited to see our design for the afternoon tea, they appreciated the effort of the Lifestyle team in which how we celebrated Italy all week throughout our activity program, and definitely look forward to seeing this more often at St Vincent’s Care Services Hawthorn.
