Some of our residents of St Vincent's Care Services facilities have shared their reflections and wisdom on growing older, as part of Queensland Seniors Week.

QSW David Scott

St Vincent's Care Services Maroochydore resident
David Scott shares his favourite thing about
getting older:

"Having the freedom to give back to the community,
as they looked after my family while I was away
during my career in the Air Force."

 QSW Margaret Bacon

St Vincent's Care Services Maroochydore resident
Margaret Bacon shares her best piece of advice:

"If there's room in the heart, there's room in the home.
I often supported family members in my house when
they needed."

 QSW Dudley Moore

St Vincent's Care Services Enoggera resident
Dudley Moore shares his secret to a fulfilling life:

"Keeping myself physically and mentally active is
essential to a good life. Since achieving my
Bachelor of Theology in my 70s, I still consider
opportunities in the church and really
enjoy being able to help people."

 QSW Joan Rooney

St Vincent's Care Services Carseldine
resident Joan Rooney shares her favourite thing
about getting older:

"A lot of funny things happened while my children
were growing up. Now that we’re all older, I enjoy
not having to clean up after them."

 QSW Tom Logan

St Vincent's Care Services Gympie resident
Tom Logan shares his favourite thing about
getting older:

"I love having grey hair, it makes you look
distinguished."

 QSW Mabel Turner

St Vincent's Care Services Gympie resident
Mabel Turner shares the best advice
she's ever received:

"My mother taught me to never go to bed angry.
I always try to live by that rule."

 QSW Darcy Jeffreys

St Vincent's Care Services Carseldine
resident Darcy Jeffreys shares his
favourite thing about getting older.

"I thought I wouldn't know anyone or be
able to do anything,
but at 94 years of age I'm still active and
engaged with life.
I love being in an aged care facility
where everyone knows my name
and is friendly."
