A heartwarming collaboration unfolded in the heart of Brisbane this May, as 190 residents from nine St Vincent’s Care homes embarked on a journey to Genesis Christian College. Here, they were treated to an unforgettable concert hosted by the Genesis Performing Arts Group. The event, aptly named ‘Amazing Grace, displayed the power of intergenerational connection through the medium of music, dance and community.

The stage came alive with performances from students aged 5 to 18. From the adorable mini dancers to the seasoned seniors and the captivating show choir, the young talents showcased their skills and left residents spellbound.

The event concluded with a joyous sing-along, a heartwarming chorus uniting residents and students in a blend of voices. Year 12 hospitality students from Genesis College also contributed by presenting a delicious high tea service for residents and students to enjoy together.

Kalee Cassidy, Head of Talent at St Vincent’s Heath Australia said the aim of the concert was to bring generations together.

“St Vincent’s are incredibly grateful to Genesis for providing St Vincent’s Care residents a truly purposeful and engaging social and performance event that creates an opportunity for a greater sense of connection for all generations. An event where hearts connect.”

“This one of kind collaboration between St Vincent’s and Genesis was formed in 2023 when we held our first concert event ‘Come to the Table’ for 140 residents from eight (8) St Vincent’s Care homes at Genesis College.”

“One year later, we were beyond delighted to partner a second time and host ‘Amazing Grace’ for 190 residents from nine (9) St Vincent’s homes – a day full of laughter, entertainment, and pure joy for all.”

For St Vincent’s Care QLD State Manager, Nicole Devlin, the event emphasised the profound impact of connection; It was a demonstration of absolute true St Vincent’s spirit and community, and Mary Aikenhead would have been bursting with pride. The Sisters of Charity reinforce to us constantly to tell new stories as pioneers, and this is what was achieved.”

Paul Sterling, Principal, Genesis Christian College shares; It was a great blessing to host residents from St Vincent’s during the recent Concert held at the College. Watching the interactions and engagement between St Vincent’s residents and students from the College was a privilege to witness.

“These interactions provide our students the opportunity to learn from the wisdom of those who have gone before.  At Genesis Christian College we value service and placing the needs of others before self.  Serving the residents from St Vincent’s is a wonderful opportunity for our students to enact this value.  Thank you to those who attended the Concert for your engagement and encouragement and thank you to the Executive Team from St Vincent’s for facilitating this special morning together.”

Residents, staff and students are already looking forward to the Genesis concert again next year Thank you to all the staff members, volunteers, students, and faculty who poured their energy into creating a wonderful, enriching experience for all involved.

In the end, 'Amazing Grace' was more than just a concert; it was a testament to the enduring power of music, community, and connection.
